 Job Title: Pottery Technician

Location: Cardiff Pottery Workshops

Salary: Competitive Pay

Hours: Part-time (Monday 4-9pm & Saturday 1-8:30pm - including other dates to cover staff annual leave / events / exhibitions etc.

Key Responsibilities:

Studio Operations: Assist in the daily operations of the pottery studio, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

Clay Preparation & Maintenance: Prepare clay for classes, including pugging, reclaiming, and ensuring stock levels are well-maintained.

Marking-Up, Fettling & Glazing: Assist with marking up pots, fettling, and glazing bisqued pottery for classes.

Kiln Operation: Safely load and unload kilns (after receiving proper training), ensuring ceramics are handled with care and placed in the correct areas for collection.

Class Assistance: Support pottery instructors by preparing materials, assisting students, and ensuring classes run smoothly. Help with exhibitions and events as needed.

Equipment & Studio Maintenance: Maintain and clean pottery wheels, equipment, and the studio itself. Follow and maintain the studio cleaning rota to ensure the space is tidy, safe, and welcoming.

Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by assisting visitors, helping them find their ceramics, and addressing any queries.

Sales & Upselling: Drive the recruitment of new members and promote courses, workshops, and upcoming events. Encourage customers to book additional classes and workshops.

Opening & Closing Procedures: Follow the opening and closing checklist to ensure the studio is properly prepared and secure at the beginning and end of each day.

Teamwork & Initiative: Work collaboratively with your team while also being able to take initiative, adapt to new situations, and follow instructions when required.

Key Skills & Experience:

• Customer Service Experience: Previous experience in a customer-facing role with excellent communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner.

• Ceramics Knowledge: Some experience with clay and pottery techniques is preferred but not essential. A strong interest in ceramics is a must.

• Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a busy environment.

• Team Player: Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, creative environment.

• Proactive & Adaptable: Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and work independently when needed.

• Sales & Engagement: Comfortable with upselling and promoting classes and memberships, with a drive to recruit new members and encourage repeat business.
